New Living Space Filled with Fine Craft and Color
This lovely woman has adopted the US for decades, raising her family here and pursuing her dreams, yet she loves her return visits “home” and wanted a colorful update to her interior to reflect the colors and textures of her childhood. We selected a folk-art woven textile and created accent pillows on her newly reupholstered sofa. We found a mid-century “Century” sofa with original peach brocade fabric ripe for an update. We selected a cocoa tweed that coordinated well with the busy pattern of the existing tile floor.
A vintage dining table was thrifted for its pedestal base. The plump, round, wood turning was perfect for the POP we needed and by removing a few inches, it became the perfect height. Removing the legs and fabricating a new disc for a base and a solid wood top of clear alder resulted in a uniquely new coffee table. We then painted the base with a brilliant red and stained the new alder top with a finish to coordinate with the adjacent vintage bookcases.
The result is a fabulous two-toned table – the fulcrum to the room – bringing all elements together for a fresh new look! But wait! Once these pieces were assembled, our client was so pleased that she wanted to add even more pillows to the festive scene. A whimsical pom-pom trim was selected in two of the accent colors red and teal to trim a new woven textile also in red. The finished product is a very successful new living space filled with fine craft and color!
