Michele Tisdale

Michele grew up in a rural area of Michigan where wildlife was abundant.  Her family grew their own vegetables and flowers. She spent many hours exploring the natural world around her. Later as a teenager she studied sculpture with master artists from the Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Early work was primarily only in black and white as drawings and Japanese brush paintings. The oriental influence can be seen today in her current crane series – oil paintings on gold leaf. She then turned to watercolors, providing a strong foundation in principals and fundamentals of art vs techniques. Today Michele works in oils with a concentration on classical indirect method, applying multiple layers of transparent paint. The effect yields great depth and luminescent colors.

Michele lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is the recent recipient of three Bardean awards from the Rio Grande Art Association in 2022.
