Kitchen of Color
This dated rather provincial kitchen received a partial face-lift that proved to enhance the entire “read” of the space. Without changing the flooring, wall color or cabinets (other than to repair drawer glides and change pulls/knobs), new lighting, boldly colorful Mexican Talavera tile and granite tile counter-tops improved the function and added pizzazz! Granite tile was a less expensive upgrade than other options yet are much more serviceable than the original plastic laminate counter-tops. Keeping the cabinets, although dated, was a preference by the owner and therefore selecting new finishes were based upon keeping the look appropriate for their inclusion so as not to make them appear neglected in the new scheme. The existing Saltillo-like floor tiles suggested continuing the theme of Mexican materials with the decorative Talavera tile that was used almost like a wall covering – installed floor to ceiling for impact.
