This dated little hall bath in a cozy little decades-old bungalow had been fiddled with over the years, but now has experienced an entirely new transformation! Hand painted Talavera tile covers the surfaces of the tub/shower enclosure, including an added arch, which adds dimension and grace and also conceals the ceiling mounted curtain track mounted behind it. Meticulously detailed mitered edges on the tile transition the edges from one plane to the next. Craftsmanship is key in the custom cabinets and tile work. For both aesthetics and cost-savings, we elected not to install any glass panels or doors. The center split of the simple white shower curtain seemed to not only suffice, but to soften the scene. Because of the intense color in the tile, an off-white tone was pulled from the flower motif and used as the neutral wall paint. An emerald green, also derived from the tile pattern, is the bold and glossy accent of the newly fabricated custom vanity and wall-mounted cabinet. The off-white wall paint serves as a fresh backdrop, allowing the bold colors of the primarily yellow Talavera tile and the punctuating Kelly-green cabinets to complement without conflict. The overhead bar light was replaced with flanking iron sconces with soft off-white linen shades and a coordinating round black iron mirror completes the scene. Hand-wrought iron accessories (towel bars, robe hooks) carry the iron theme around the room. Existing floor tile remained, except the accent band that had been previously installed along the edge of the tub. That accent band is now replaced with a coral field tile cut in smaller segments and accented with miniatures of the 4×4 yellow Talavera tile pattern.
