From Stunning to Spectacular – Dining Table

This handsomely distressed solid wood table was not an inexpensive investment, but it had such an unusual base that we made what might be considered an extravagant decision and purchased the table from the craftsmen in California, had it shipped to New Mexico and then began the transformation.

Our client wanted something unique and artistic for his new dining room table and he also wanted to raise the height from the standard 30” to a 36” counter height. We had the same California company fabricate custom counter height chairs, for which we selected richly dyed Spanish leather for the seats and two different woven textiles for the front and back of the backs of the chairs.

In order to raise the table base to accommodate the ultimate 36” height, Enrique crafted solid wood members to create platforms and vertical supports in a chunky hand-distressed continuation of the original treatment of the solid wood base.

We photographed the table prior to having the glass top placed in position because the glare on the glass made it difficult to see and appreciate the craftsmanship of this creative modification. It may seem wasteful to have stored this beautiful solid wood top, but the larger diameter glass table offered a bigger surface around which to gather six full-size armless dining chairs.

The end result is a sensational center pedestal focal point which now features a micaceous clay bowl, an indigenous art piece taking center stage when the table is not in use for dining.
